About this site

Who am I and why do I run a website

You're now In Nate's World! This website has been evolving since 1998. The site history page details the various technologies that have powered it over the years. This site mainly functions as a personal blog and photo gallery, with some special sections for music and games I play or helped to create.

I like playing with computers and software. Making money doing so helps.

  • I'm an open source advocate. This means I use and promote software which is developed publicly, allowing everyone to see the source code and made available so others may use and improve it for the good of all.

  • I don't consider myself a programmer but I have written a fair amount of code and I certainly do copy and modify code that others have written fairly frequently and so I appreciate that so many have shared their code so freely.

Music has always been a big part of my life. I play several instruments, primarily guitar, 'cello, violin, mandolin.

  • Every so often I gather up a bunch of recordings which define a point in time for me and release them in album format to give away to friends who have played them with me. My music page lists most of these.
  • I put together collections of these songs in what is called the Book of Song.

As a history geek I like to read about history and sometimes re-enact it.

I've always been a gamer but these days that implies computer games. While I do enjoy some computer (and console) games, my interests in this area also include Role Playing, Tabletop war games, and Board games. The Gaming gallery illustrates this.

While I'm a family man, you won't see a lot of family related posts here - thats a purposeful ommission.

I have no agenda here other than to continue writing and sharing ideas. I've been keeping a journal in some form or other since 1980 thanks to a requirement made by my 8th grade English teacher that we write a journal entry every day, a practice which became a lifelong habit.

This web site has changed a lot over the years as a stroll through the wayback machine will show. One of the main reasons for this is that I use this site largely as an excuse to try out various web based technologies that interest me. If you're interested in what I've been playing with over the years, you can read the site history.
